Ahoy Matey!

Yep! Tomorrow we board the Love Boat and set sail for Hawaii! Our 14 day round trip cruise is finally here. We plan to turn our phones off and I'm going to try and stay away from the computers for 2 whole weeks!!! We'll see how that goes!! The phones are must. Not paying international calling charges!!! They'll only be turned on when we arrive back in Los Angeles on the 14th! Have a great two weeks. I'm sure I'll have lots to blog about when we return!

Have a great 2 weeks!

Explanation

Eddie wanted to get a "base tan" before we went on our cruise so he wouldn't burn.
Needless-to-say he is now in the shower because he is itching so bad. I have some Cortizone 10 I'm going to apply after he emerges from the tub. I hope it helps. He hates lotion and any other kind of goo one applies to their skin, so you know he is suffering!!! I say, you play, you pay!!! Sympathetic aren't I!!!! His tummy is still as red as the picture. His back isn't as red as it was, but that's what's itching!! I'm sure his tummy will itch tomorrow!!!! As he always tells me..."it's the little victories!"

Saturday Adventures Jan 23rd

We started our Saturday adventure at the temple. It was a beautiful, clear day. Did you know you can see the Hollywood sign from the street that takes you out of the parking lot? Who knew!!!! It's not a head on view, but you still know what it is. With all the weather we had it looked like the mountains with snow were not that far from Santa Monica Blvd. We went home and changed our clothes. We went to a very late lunch at Olive Garden and then went to Shoreline Village in Long Beach.
This is a picture of the boats docked there. We always sing the Gilligan's Island Theme song when we see this!
After walking around there we decided to go see if there was a Princess Ship docked. There was and it was ready to leave. It was 4:05p.m. We watched it for awhile and then decided to go down the street to Ports O'Call and see it go by. The above ship docked while we were waiting for the Love Boat. It was cool to listen to them shout orders to roll up the sails. There was a little kid up on the highest ropes. It was pretty amazing. Eddie guesses it was a training ship. It was cool to watch!
So, here comes the Sapphire Princess. Well actually the above picture was taken when it was just leaving the dock.
This is the Princess coming around the corner from pier 93!
It was so much fun to watch it and know that in 8 days...we'll be on one just like it!!!
We came home and looked to see where the Sapphire Princess goes...Mexican Riviera! 7 day cruise!!
Our favorite part of it gliding by. See the yellow thing in that open door....
It's a giant hand waving at all the people at Ports O'Call. We laughed so hard.
Eddie wants to be the guy who waves the giant hand on our ship!!!
These are the people on the top of the ship waving at us. People would yell from Port O'Call and the people on the Ship would yell back!!! It was very cool!!! Can hardly wait!!!
I thought I'd take a picture of the lifeboats...not exactly Titanic-esque.
Look how tiny that little boat is next to the big ship!!!
After that we went to Signal Hill. I'd never been there before. When the missionaries first arrive in the California Long Beach Mission, there Mission President takes them and shows them the view and says...This is your mission area!!! It's really cool. The sun was going down, so I want to go back early one morning, especially on a clear day to see the sites!!!
The Boeing plant and Long Beach airport.
It was getting a little chilly so we didn't walk the Panorama Promenade, but we will next time! It was a great adventure!!!

Saturday Adventures Jan 15th

We had to have our Saturday adventure on Friday. We went to see the Tehachapi Loop!
We got to race a train there! We didn't want to miss it as it went thru the loop!
It was really cool!
Eddie had been there before with his Dad in 1992 or 1993.
But there wasn't a train there when he was there before!
So it was really cool to be there with a train and we didn't have to wait around or anything!
After watching the train we drove thru Tehachapi and then back to Bakersfield.
It was a great adventure!

Saturday Adventures! jan 9th

Our adventure took us to San Pedro this morning to check out where we will start our cruise from. If you look closely at the photo above you can see the Sapphire Princess docked where our ship will be in 3 weeks!!!! That's the Vincent Thomas bridge behind it!!!
After checking out the cruise ship we went to Gaffey Street Diner. It was on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives!! It was delicious!!! Eddie got the ham and cheese omelette and I got the Country breakfast with biscuits and gravy!!! Mmm Good!
Then we just drove down Gaffey Street as far as we could. We drove right to...The Korean Friendship Bell. It was pretty cool!
This carving is on the bottom of each side of the stairs. Looks like H.R. Puffnstuff to me!
This is the ceiling!
The actual bell.
We saw Catalina!
Then we drove to....
We remembered taking Mom there a few years ago!
Made me want fish sticks!!!
Then we went across the Vincent Thomas bridge to Long Beach!!
Seahorse fountain!
Where the Spruce Goose used to live. Eddie says it went to Portland. Who knew?!
The Queen Mary. We were there on the hour, so we got to hear her horn blow!
The day ended at a baptism. Mario and Tania. Eddie baptized Tania.
And now Eddie is spending the night with the homeless. This morning they found one of the homeless guys dead!!! Hopefully, they won't have that kind of excitement tonight!

Happy New Year

So we started our new year morning out by going to Pasadena to watch the flyover a couple of blocks from the parade. While we were waiting Eddie and I were talking about how cool it would be if it was the B-2 escorted by F-18s. Well after waiting for about 15 minutes after the parade started, someone drove by and told us that the flyover wasn't happening until the end of the parade. So we decided to come home. We were surprised at the end of the parade when 4 F-18s did the flyover. We were half right!!!
We were going to go down to the same place we went last year to watch the flyover for the Rose Bowl, but we were taking a nap and didn't want to get up. We started watching the pre-game stuff on TV. The F18s did the flyover. I told Eddie now lets go outside and watch them fly by. He thought I was nuts. We went outside and I started walking across the street. He asked where I was going...I said to get closer. He really thought I was nuts. He really didn't think we would see anything. Sure enough. I turned back around and there they were!!!! I told him I knew we could see them. He didn't believe me. Hello! I've lived here for how many years??? Before they built the houses across the street we could see the fireworks at the Rose Bowl on the 4th of July!!! I knew what direction to look and everything!!! It was pretty cool, even though they were in Pasadena and we were in Pico Rivera!
Oh..for those of you who don't know the big whoop about these planes. I worked on the B-2 and my dad worked on the F-18. He was an aerospace engineer. I just did paperwork! If you missed the flyover, there are some pretty cool videos on YouTube!
