The Wednesday Letters

I finally started reading this book Wednesday while waiting for Mom's surgery at the hospital. I finished it this morning! Jason F. Wright is the author. He also wrote, "The Christmas Jar" which is a life altering book I believe. This one was good too. I don't know that I'll start writing Wednesday Letters, but it's a cool idea. I like reading his works. He has short quick chapters and keeps you wanting to read more and yet taking three days to read it, was okay too. (I read the Christmas Jar in a couple of hours!) I asked Eddie if I could read this book to him. He said yes, but I don't think he's all that excited and I asked him this before the book took a major turn that I wasn't expecting and then I thought I had it figured out! For those of you who read it, I thought it was the Uncle!!!! Boy was I wrong!!! I don't know if Eddie would like the huge unexpected turns in it. It does teach principles and values that everyone needs to learn!!!Anyway! If you haven't read either of these books. Please do! I gave most of our family members The Christmas Jar for Christmas last year and said I would send a letter explaining why we had given it and I still haven't!!! It's only April!!!! Okay, so there's something else I could be doing besides writing on my blog! There are LOTS of things I SHOULD be doing than writing on my blog!

Later!

Sermon for the Week

So, last night I was very restless. Sometimes my brain is on overdrive. I was awake for an hour or so in the middle of the night. I was pondering on all the evil in the world and the people who make money off of it. Especially those who make money off it, in the name of "helping people" on TV. There's way too much garbage on TV. Especially "talk shows" if you can call them that, that are supposedly helping others, when all they're doing is making people's lives more miserable. And the "stars" on these shows that are supposedly "professionals."
They don't understand the damage they are actually doing. As I'm tending to do lately, this made me ponder on my own life. Ya know, the whole "when you point your finger at someone else there are 3 fingers pointing back at you" thing. So, I thought of myself and wondered how many people I have been a negative influence on in my life. It's a rather horrible feeling and I truly believe that someday we will know the effect we've had on others for good or bad in this life. Because I was thinking this, I felt horrible, even wracked with pain. I didn't think I was ever going to shake the feeling or the thoughts that were playing in my head. I prayed for forgiveness for all the evil I have done, for the bad examples I have set, for the negative influence I've been on others, I was really upset!
Then, as always, the Lord in his infinite love and wisdom touched me with his Spirit, as he so often does, by placing a melody in my head. I recognized it and was filled with instant peace as I pondered these words:
Come, ye disconsolate, where’er ye languish;
Come to the mercy seat, fervently kneel.
Here bring your wounded hearts;
here tell your anguish.
Earth has no sorrow that heav’n cannot heal.

I'm grateful for the old Sunday School program where you actually had song practice and we learned the hymns. That's how I know this hymn. I'm also grateful for the peace it brought to me and continues to bring.

Eddie and I have been watching the Discussions on the Old Testament on BYU TV. Not only has it been a bonding thing, but we're learning something and Eddie's even beginning to like Isaiah! Now that's truly amazing!

Anyway, the outcome of this whole experience has been a greater appreciation for my Savior and the Atonement. As it says in Isaiah 53:4-5

"Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows...he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

And this reminds me of the words of Alma:

"And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
And he will take upon him
death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.
Now the Spirit
knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me." Alma 7:11-13

Because of the Atonement earth truly has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal!
I'll leave you with my favorite scripture:
2 Nephi 1:15 "But behold the Lord hath redeemed my soul from hell; I have beheld his glory, and I am encircled about eternally in the arms of his love."

For my Savior and the gift of the atonement I am truly grateful!

End of sermon!

The invalid!

He says it only hurts when he lays on it, when he's standing and when he moves. Don't make him laugh, cuz that hurts too!!!

Poor Baby!!!!!!

Eddie's boo-boo

Saturday night, after returning from Reno to Sacramento, we were just kicking back enjoying a peaceful night. Our hotel room had a normal bathtub, but it had whirlpool jacuzzi jets in it. So, like the night before we each took our own bath. Well, I was enjoying the peace after my bath, while Eddie was in the tub. I heard this loud thump, but thought nothing of it! A few minutes later, Eddie is standing in front of me holding his arm in a very strange way and tells me, he fell in the tub and crushed his ribs! Poor baby!!!! He had taken the bath mat out of the tub so he could "slide easier" in the tub. Well, slide easier he did and he has the bruised ribs to prove it. His feet slid out from under him and he landed on the side of the tub! OUCH! He is taking it easy for the next few days. Poor baby!

Our Weekend!

This past weekend we were able to escape!! We started our trip off by going to the Oakland Temple. It was so pretty in Oakland. The fog was rolling over the bay, but it was crisp and beautiful. We love the chandelier in the Celestial Room. We also were able to do some sealings. The sealing room we were in was fascinating. Excellent architecture!!! If you've never been. You need to go!!!After the temple, we traveled to Sacramento for the night. We woke up and started our journey to Reno, NV for Travis and Melissa's wedding.

Shannon, Matt, Levi and Dylan went to the wedding too. It was good to visit with them and to meet little Dylan for the first time.

Our trip back to Sacramento for the night was quite lovely. We enjoyed the snow on Donner Pass. It was really cold. 33 degrees the car said. It was very windy too and if felt colder than 33!

FYI

The reason we have named our blog Personal Hi-Jean is because shorly after Eddie and I got together he figured out if you put our middle names together it's Hi-Jean. He's always found great humor in that. So, our blog is to keep in touch with our family and friends and to keep them informed of what's going on in our lives, I decided to call it Personal Hi-Jean. I told him last night and he had a good laugh over it!!!!

So, enjoy all you learn from: Personal Hi-Jean!
